¿ Porque you ask? The Latinx Population is expected to increase by 25% by 2030, and following this growth will be the labor force. With that being said, it is important to increase educational success to ensure prosperity throughout all corners. In the United States, 24% of Hispanic adults (25 and older) have earned an associate degree or higher in comparison to 46% of White non-Hispanic adults. In addition to this, Latinx Males have the lowest enrollment and completion rates of any subgroup.

 

With This Being Said: It is imperative to support our Latinx Male peers through a Mentorship Program. The program's goal is to address the existing achievement gap for Latinx males by implementing a culturally specific mentoring program that will support them during their high school education and encourage them to pursue a technical, vocational, or undergraduate education.

Leadership Among Peers: Through a positive reinforcement of role models and mentors who reflect the ethnic make up of the Latino man, students are more likely to be engaged and empowered. Witnessing yourself in another position changes the paradigm that had been instilled by years of racism and stereotypes. The Mentors share the same cultural experiences as the Mentees, something which school faculty typically lacks.

 

The MENTE Hermano Mentoring Program will serve for the student's growth as an individual and as a student, with encouragement to pursue a higher education.
